Welcome!

Welcome to the Charlie Delta Blog. This is a place where I can share some experiences and training with others coming up in the competitive shooting sports or exploring a career in the military, law enforcement, or government contracting.

The primary focus of this blog will be firearms training and performance, whether it's for USPSA/IDPA competitions or professional use. I will also talk about my path as a competitor and professional user to include match/stage breakdowns, some gear reviews, and other industry updates from time to time. You don't have to be a competitive shooter to find something useful here. If you have any questions or ideas for content, send them my way and I'll be happy to help where I am able.

The end goal is to offer classes ranging from introductory lessons for new gun owners to competitive shooting fundamentals and practical/defensive pistol and rifle classes. Once I am back in the States more consistently, I will give some updates and begin posting available courses.

A little about myself; I spent 7 years in the US Army as a scout/reconnaissance trooper with a couple deployments overseas and time in Iraq during OIF. After I left the military, I moved back near my hometown and became a police officer in mid-sized municipal agency. Shortly after becoming certified, I was selected as a dual-purpose K9 handler (patrol and narcotic). I later joined our Street Crimes Unit working narcotics investigations and fugitive apprehension with my K9 partner. I spent 5 and a half years in law enforcement before moving into government contracting.

I began contracting as a part-time firearms instructor for DOE’s Office of Secure Transportation while I was still a police officer, at the recommendation of a K9 friend/colleague. Later, I was selected for a full-time position with their firearms staff. There, I worked with some incredible shooters, teachers, and all-around good people. Working with these men got me into competitive practical shooting in USPSA and IDPA.

As the saying goes, “Iron sharpens iron.” Shooting with these gentlemen and pushing myself on the competitive field took my shooting to another level and helped set many new goals. In my first competitive season I made B-class in USPSA Carry Optics and Master class in IDPA Carry Optics following a high finish in an IDPA state championship.

Since then, I moved into overseas contracting providing high threat security and running an explosive detection K9. I still compete when I am home and plan to be home a little more in the coming years to compete more, grow my business, and offer some classes locally. I haven’t been too active during the 2024 competitive season (hooray for dry fire). However, I do have access to a range and will be diligent on my dry fire, as should you!

So, I will be updating the blog based on my availability (and internet connectivity). If you’ve read this far, welcome and thank you very much for your time!
